Beginning through advanced guitar lessons offered, specializing in easy listening music, with an emphasis on reading music. Each lesson is tailored to the student’s desires; we discuss what the student wants to learn and go from there. For example, a student wanting to learn the melodies of Bruce Springsteen, America, Simon & Garfunkel or other easy listening songs for his/her own enjoyment would probably not be interested in hard rock or the complexity of studio guitar playing. Singing is encouraged, especially if a student wants to accompany him/herself on the guitar. (Sorry, no rockers)
Traditional music values and guitar basics taught include sight reading, rhythm patterns (rhythm, syncopation, etc. I sometimes teach this with a drum book), accompanying a soloist or group, music theory, chording and position playing, improvisation, and strum variations (Bossa nova, finger-picking, folk, rock, waltz, etc.). Lessons are $25 per half-hour, and $40 per hour.
BACKGROUND: B.A., M.S. from the University of Saint Francis. Have taught guitar for over 40 years, and played professionally in bands or with soloists. Took top honors in regional and national American Guild of Music guitar and piano competitions. Have published one song and articles (on music and other subjects) in both national and local publications, including Seventeen, Music Journal, National Lampoon, Gray’s Sporting Journal, New Maturity, and many more. Former music critic/concert reviewer for The Fort Wayne Journal Gazette.
